Connecting HR for Justice

Connecting HR for Justice (formerly known as Connecting HR Africa until we extended our scope) is a skills-based volunteering initiative for HR professionals and other people who do people stuff, supporting the work of Hope for Justice. I came up with the idea after spending time with the staff of Retrak (now part of Hope for Justice) in Ethiopia; I already gave of my time and money but wanted to do more. Inspired by the resourcefulness of the children and families we worked with, I thought more deeply about what else I could use to help…. and thought of the fantastic people I knew through Connecting HR.

The idea is simple; you pay for your own travel costs, you agree to raise a sum of money to support Hope for Justice, and then you take part in an organised trip to one of the countries that Hope for Justice operates in. Whilst there, you use your skills to help the staff and you get to experience some of the work firsthand. We’ve taken teams to Uganda in 2016, 2017, 2018 and to Ethiopia in 2019. A planned trip to Cambodia is currently on hold (due to a global pandemic) and is currently scheduled for early 2020. My blog post on the 2017 trip might provide more of an idea of what the trip actually entails.

Connecting HR Manchester

‘Connecting HR Manchester’ – we use the hashtag #ConnectinghrMCR – is a gathering for people who do people stuff. We usually meet in the evening, just 3 or 4 times a year in Manchester. All are welcome, and it is aimed at people working in and around HR (including Engagement, Employee Relations, Employment Law, Recruitment, L&D, OD, Reward and Internal Communications etc etc). My blog post from our 2nd event probably gives a good idea of what the event is like.

We currently meet once a month via Zoom, typically on the 1st Thursday of the month. You can find more details/register on the Connecting HR Manchester Linkedin page here
